An MILP model for safe multi-floor process plant layout using the domino hazard index

In this paper, an optimisation-based approach to obtain safe multi-floor process plant layout designs using the domino hazard index (a sub-index of integrated inherent safety index) is presented. A mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model proposed economically optimal design considering connection by pipes, horizontal and vertical pumping fluids, purchase land, fixed area-dependent construction floors, financial risk associated with hazardous events their escalation potential, installation passive protection devices. Hazardous such as pool fires, jet flash fireballs blast waves resulting from explosions are considered a novel more realistic estimation distances between equipment items. bi-objective optimisation problem also considered, minimising costs total values for plant, adopting ϵ-constraint method. The then applied 11-unit case study susceptible each these events, obtaining results device configurations in relatively short amount time.
